What is Kits.ai?
Kits.ai is an AI audio platform built for musicians and producers, centered on singing voice conversion (AI covers) with a library of 100+ royalty-free and officially licensed artist voices. It bundles instant and professional voice cloning, voice blending, harmony generation, AI instruments, stem separation, vocal removal and AI mastering, plus a basic web text-to-speech in 14 languages. A developer API covers voice conversion, voice blending and vocal removal, though TTS was removed from the API in September 2025.
Kits.ai pros & cons
Pros
- Purpose-built for music: singing voice conversion, harmonies, AI instruments, stem separation and mastering in one suite
- 100+ royalty-free voices, including officially licensed artist voices with revenue-share for the artists
- Both instant (~30s of data) and professional voice cloning on paid plans
- Developer API for voice conversion, voice blending and vocal removal
- Clean, beginner-friendly interface (consistently praised across reviews)
- Free tier with 15 conversion minutes and 1 voice slot, no credit card required
Cons
- Dismal Trustpilot score (~1.4-1.7/5, ~93% 1-star) with recurring complaints about continued billing after cancellation and a no-refund policy
- Inconsistent output quality: users report pitch cracks, distortion and off-key results on singing conversions
- Starter plan caps downloads at 15 minutes/month despite advertising unlimited conversions
- Voice cloning and downloads are locked out of the free tier entirely
- TTS is an afterthought (14 languages, web only) and was deprecated from the API in Sept 2025
The arena’s verdict
Kits.ai only makes sense if you are making music: for AI song covers, demo vocals or ethically licensed artist voices, it is one of the few purpose-built suites and the $10 Starter plan is a cheap way in. Anyone who needs narration, audiobook or IVR text-to-speech should skip it: TTS is a minor side feature that was even dropped from the API, and ElevenLabs or Murf are far stronger there. The rock-bottom Trustpilot score (~1.4-1.7/5), driven by billing and cancellation complaints, means you should test the free tier thoroughly and set a calendar reminder before subscribing.
